Animation is the creation of motion pictures by recording a timed sequence of still images, drawings, objects, cartoon figures or people in various positions of incremental movement. When played back these still pictures no longer appear individually as static images but combine to produce the illusion of unbroken motion. Animation applies to anything on film, video, or computers, and even flipbooks of drawings, where a series of drawings or photographs on paper are then viewed with a mechanical device.
