Environmental Design
Environmental design is concerned with the commissioning, design, construction
and management of buildings and their environment. There is a wide range
of programs and careers in environmental design. Environmental designers
often work as consultants to local government departments in such areas
as park planning, and so can make a real difference to the local environment.
Types of Environmental Design Degrees
Environmental design degrees range from bachelor's to doctoral degrees
and can be undertaken full-time, part-time and online. Programs will be
of particular interest to those interested in working in architecture,
health, energy, building and the environment. Depending on your level
of study, you should expect to cover the fundamentals of environmental
design such as energy provision and management, ventilation, lighting,
noise, CO2 emissions and health concerns in regards to pollution.
Environmental Design Careers
Environmental design degrees open the doors a range of a building-related
careers in the public and private sector, architecture, building services
engineering and energy. The current rise in environmental concerns and
energy emissions should mean plenty of opportunity for promotion and salary
increase. Self-employed environmental designers can earn an excellent
salary working with organizations in their local area. There is also the
opportunity to work to a wider environmental agenda, hopefully helping
to save the world!
