Industrial building design is a branch of architectural studies that focuses specifically on designing and constructing spaces and products that are intended for industrial, rather than commercial use. Industrial designers combine artistic design skills, business and management skills, and engineering knowledge to create products used by industries in a variety of business sectors.

A Specific Degree for Specific Work
In order to begin work in industrial building design, you need to have at least a bachelor's degree in industrial building design. Often, you will also need an internship in your field of interest that will help you understand the parameters of industrial building design as it relates to commercial design.

Though commercial designers and industrial designers are often educated in the same programs, there are important differences between the two fields. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the industrial building sector is responsible for the construction of all industrial buildings with the exception of warehouses. Instead, they can focus on utility, which is good since efficiency leads straight to more money in the pocket.
